The Benefits of Sensory Bins and Activities
Sensory activities are a wonderful way to engage multiple senses, such as touch, sight, hearing, and smell, helping children develop and refine their sensory perception.
Not only that but they help develop a variety of gross motor, fine motor, and creative skills:
Manipulating objects in sensory bins, like pouring, scooping, and picking up small items, enhances fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Sensory play encourages children to describe their experiences, fostering language development as they use words to express what they see, feel, and hear.
Sensory play often involves open-ended play, allowing children to use their imaginations and creativity freely
Sensory play can be calming and soothing, helping children regulate their emotions and reduce stress or anxiety.
Sensory experiences lay the foundation for more advanced learning, as they help children make connections between the abstract and concrete concepts.

"I'm just so excited that I found The Montessori Room. I have a one year old grandson and I research toys endlessly, especially educational toys but if you're like me, that research can be time consuming and exhaustive. I feel like the research part has been done for me by the wonderful team at the Montessori Room and all I have to do is pick and I can't go wrong! Not only that, the website is so well organized and easy to navigate, the follow-up emails confirm order, address and delivery and the items arrived in one day in perfect condition. Communication was friendly and responsive and the best part? It feels great to support a local business with a huge selection of Canadian made items... Thank-you, Thank-you! I've found "the" store for me..."

While there are other sensory bin tables on the market, this set has everything you need for art projects, sensory play, building and storage.
We especially love that:
There's two bins for different sorting activities or sensory mediums (warm and cold, land and water, dirty and clean, etc).
Young children can work standing or sitting, great for developing balance and core strength. Older children (ages 5-6+) will find it more comfortable to sit on the stool while working.
It's perfect for storage of art materials, blocks, loose parts, or lego when you're not using the bins for sensory play.
It's easier than you might think!
Pick a filler, like rainbow rice, dried legumes, shredded paper, etc. and add that to the bin.
Choose a theme you would like to introduce, i.e. colours, textures, smells, nature, etc. and add small toys or objects that fit the theme.
Add some tools to enrich their exploration, i.e. scoops, spoons, bowls, tongs, cups, etc. We have a set already put together on our site, Wooden Sensory Bin Tool Kit.
Step back and let them explore.

The sensory bin table and stool set is recommended for children ages 3+.
Water can be used in the plastic sensory bins but the wood table should not stay wet for an extended period of time. Water can soften and damage the wood.
If water is used in the bins, it's recommended that you keep a dry dishcloth nearby to routinely clean up spills.
