Great question!
Building forts require no batteries and no screens. There are no blinking lights or loud sounds.
Make-a-Fort is a product that lets kids be kid and allows a child's imagination to run wild!
Fort building:
Promotes gross motor development - children crawl in and out, reach up, bend down, move around
Promotes the use of imagination and creativity
Stimulates problem solving skills, hand-eye coordination, cooperation, collaboration, social skills development and patience
Builds spatial awareness
Teaches planning and follow through
Fun for almost any age and it's a great way to spend quality time together as a family.
All creations are great for 4-12 year olds, take 30-60 minutes to build and require 1 Explorer Kit plus 1 Creator Kit to create.
Have your kids treat you or your neighbours to tasty lemonade in the hot afternoon from a lemonade stand they built and decorated themselves! Their imaginations will run wild with other ways to play with the stand, too.
Create a giraffe standing 6 ft tall inside your room! Kids can imagine being on an African savannah. They can add their own stuffed animals to turn their room into an animal park or wild animal vet hospital!
Eco Friendly, Colourable, Reuseable, Stores back in case, Easy to assemble, Keeps kids off screens
Kids can design their own theatre productions in the Puppet Theatre they made themselves! They may also decide to make their own puppet characters and direct productions for an audience of family or neighbourhood friends!

How to Build Your Fort!
"I'm just so excited that I found The Montessori Room. I have a one year old grandson and I research toys endlessly, especially educational toys but if you're like me, that research can be time consuming and exhaustive. I feel like the research part has been done for me by the wonderful team at the Montessori Room and all I have to do is pick and I can't go wrong! Not only that, the website is so well organized and easy to navigate, the follow-up emails confirm order, address and delivery and the items arrived in one day in perfect condition. Communication was friendly and responsive and the best part? It feels great to support a local business with a huge selection of Canadian made items... Thank-you, Thank-you! I've found "the" store for me..."
"I've purchased a few items for my kids from the Montessori Room. I like how items are categorized by age and accompanied by detailed descriptions -- great for online shopping. The checkout process was simple and delivery was very quick, often 1-2 days ahead of schedule."
"I was so impressed with all the items I purchased. All of them were packaged so carefully and neatly. The toys themselves are amazing quality and Canadian made! So impressed…beyond words can express!"
"Love that we are able to shop quality products locally, with great customer service."
Perfect for Those Loooooong Canadian Winters!

Make-a-Fort was created by two fathers who wanted to challenge children to be creative in the real world without negatively impacting the environment.

Things you can build with one Explorer Kit and one Creator Kit…
Building forts with boxes is great but this is way better than boxes…they are panels that kids can connect together to build whatever they imagine.
It stores back in a provided case when not in use, can be used over and over again, and is much easier to build/tear down.
This kit is also quite durable (checkout the See How Strong page). and can be reused for years to come. It’s worth every penny!
The Explorer Kit is the original fort building kit that allows building really big forts easily. If you do not have the Explorer Kit, purchase that first before buying this set.
The Creator Kit is an expansion pack that can be combined with the Explorer Kit to build more intricate and challenging forts.
Yes. This kit is made from an upgraded cardboard that is much stronger than normal shipping box cardboard.
To put this to the test, the creators of Make-a-Fort placed bricks on a Make-A-Fort panel and a on a piece of cardboard cut the same size from a normal shipping box. The Make-A-Fort panel easily held three heavy bricks. The normal shipping box cardboard collapsed with about half the weight of a single brick. The Make-A-Fort panel was over 6x stronger than normal shipping box cardboard.
Note: We do not recommend putting heavy weights on the Make-A-Fort panels like this. This was only done to demonstrate that this isn’t typical flimsy cardboard.
It can be used over and over again with reasonable care.
Check out the See How Strong page for a demonstration of the strength.

Each fort building kit has been tested by a certified toy testing laboratory to ensure all components are non-toxic and safe for use as a children’s toy.
All components fit back in the provided carrying case.
The carrying case fits under a bed or in a closet when not in use.
Our Creator Kit includes 67 panels in a variety of shapes, 86 black foam circular connectors, 6 yellow triangle braces, a Getting Started Guide, and a carrying case.
Yes. Each fort building kit is made from recycled cardboard and can be recycled again when you no longer want to play with the toy.
Simply push the black circular foam connectors snugly into the panel slots to connect panels together.
Connect lots of panels together to form forts, tunnels, mazes, etc.
The Explorer Kit is intended for anyone that enjoys building forts. These forts are easy to build, are big enough to play with inside, and have a stronger structure when complete.
The Creator Kit is intended for advanced builders that want a challenge. It is only recommended that you buy this kit once you have purchased the Explorer kit. These forts often require following a long sequence of instructions, can be too small to play inside, and can be "wigglier" when complete.
For 1 young child, a single Explorer Kit may be enough.
For multiple children or for an older child, two to three Explorer Kits are recommended.
For very advanced builders, adding one or more Creator Kits to your Explorer Kit purchase is recommended.
