Why are squishy toys so popular right now???

Squishy fidget toys have become so popular over the last year. We get at least a couple calls a week from children ~ages 8-12, asking if we have any Needoh in stock...

As an aside, I love that parents are encouraging their children's development of phone skills.

What makes them so appealing?

They're very satisfying to squeeze, press, squish and manipulate.

Most adults that visit our store can't resist playing with the demos :)

They’re also colourful, fun-shaped, and open-ended. Children see them and just know what to do with them.

Benefits of Playing with Squishy Toys

1. Helps Develop Self-Regulation - Squishy Fidgets provide tactile sensory input that can help calm the nervous system. By offering an easy physical outlet for restless energy, they can help to reduce stress and improve concentration.

Bonus - squishy fidgets are quiet, unlike some other fidgets, so they're great for the classroom.

2. Hand Strengthening - They’re perfect for strengthening the hands and you know how much Montessori loves developing the hands :)

Because they’re designed to be squished, children are naturally strengthening their hands as they explore.

3. Sensory Exploration - They also offer a chance for sensory exploration. Children can discover differences in texture, firmness and resistance while engaging their sense of touch.

Here are some of our favourites:

Safety PSA

Please note that some squishy toys can burst if they are exposed to extreme heat, such as being left in a hot car.

Always store squishy toys indoors in hot weather. You can read more about squishy toys and heat safety in this article from Today’s Parent: https://www.todaysparent.com/family/squishy-toys-exploding-in-hot-cars/
