Engaging the sense of touch through various shapes and textures enables children to develop their understanding of different objects. 

How does this work?

• First let the child get familiar with each item and their shape and texture
• Place all bean bags in the sack and mix them up
• Have the child reach into the sack and select a bean bag without taking it out 
• Let the child explore the texture and shape of the item to try to identify it just by their sense of touch
• Tell them to describe what they’re feeling 
• Child can try to remember where else they’ve experienced that particular texture: Maybe they have a favourite pillow made of the same material?
• Extension: keep pointing out different textures in your home or outside. Improve your child’s critical thinking skills by having them compare every day items to the bean bags in the sack. It’s the little things that encourage big imagination!
